KANN NICHT SEIN!
Dass die Wahrheit im Auge des Betrachters liegt, sie also subjektiv ist und sich immer wieder verändern kann, ist vor allem dann problematisch, wenn auf dieser Grundlage Entscheidungen getroffen werden. Die Gefahr, danebenzuliegen, ist groß. Dies gilt nicht nur für optische Täuschungen. Je undurchsichtiger uns die Realität erscheint, desto eher neigen wir dazu, sie zu vereinfachen. Wir gaukeln uns etwas vor und verschließen die Augen vor der wahren Komplexität. Der orangefarbener Würfel dreht sich deshalb um das Thema Wahrnehmung – mit lauter Illusionen:
Mustererkennung: Im Jahr 1973 verpixelte der amerikanische Hirnforscher Leon D. Harmon von den Bell Labs gemeinsam mit dem ungarischen Wahrnehmungspsychologen Béla Julesz, einem Pionier der Kognitionswissenschaften, das Abraham-Lincoln-Porträt – bekannt vom amerikanischen 5-Dollar-Schein. Aus der Nähe erkennt man nur Quadrate in Weiß, Grau und Schwarz. Eine Kontur wird erst aus der Distanz sichtbar. Ergo: Es kommt nicht immer aufs Detail an, sondern oft im Gegenteil auf eine gute Distanz, auf Unschärfe.
Café Wall Illusion: Erkennen Sie, dass die Linien, die oben die schwarzen und weißen Quadrate voneinander trennen, parallel verlaufen? Bei dieser sogenannten Kaffeehaustäuschung erscheinen Rechtecke trapezförmig, wenn sie – abwechselnd dunkel und hell – parallele Riehe bilden und diese gegeneinander verschoben und durch Linien getrennt sind. Erstmals veröffentlicht wurde dieser Effekt „als Kindergarten-Illusion“ bereits im Jahr 1898, dann aber est wieder ab den 1970er-Jahren wiederentdeckt.
Extinction Illusion: Kann es sein, dass im orangefarbenen Bild daneben die Punkte in den kreuzenden Linien bei Ihnen nur auftauchen, wenn Sie sich darauf konzentrieren, ansonsten aber wieder verschwinden? „Ninio’s Extinction Illusion“ heißt die Grafik, die der der amerikanische Spieleentwickler Will Kerslake 2016 auf Twitter postete, woraufhin sie weltweit viral ging. Das Bild zeigt eine Anzahl von Punkten. Allerdings ist es unmöglich, alle gleichzeitig zu sehen. Konzentriert man sich auf einen oder zwei, verschwinden die anderen aus dem Sehfeld. Bei der optischen Täuschung handelt es sich um eine Variation der sogenannten Hermann-Gitter-Täuschung: Durch das Gittermuster wirken die Kreuzungspunkte heller, gleichzeitig verschwinden die dunkleren Punkte.
Penrose-Dreieck: Bei der Bewegungsillusion – hier das Bild „Moving Ball“ von Andrey Korshenkov in Gelb, Orange und Violett – handelt es sich um Scheinbewegungen. Obwohl das Bild eigentlich statisch ist, scheint sich alles zu bewegen, so dass ein fast halluzinatorischer Effekt entsteht. Hervorgerufen wird diese optische Täuschung durch wiederholte Muster mit unterschiedlich starken Kontrasten. Kontraste und Helligkeiten werden in der Peripherie der Retina, also der Netzhaut, unterschiedlich schnell weitergeleitet. So kommt es in der nachgeschalteten visuellen Verarbeitung zu einer sogenannten Falschverarbeitung und damit zu einer Fehlinterpretation des Gehirns.
